How to Use This Wiki

(Navigation Tips)

If you are a registered participant and have used the password to enter this site, then you should see a blue box in the lower left corner of every page (including this one) stamped with  the words "Edit Page."Click on the box and you will see a bar of icons running across the top and another box in the lower left corner, this time gray and stamped with the word "Save."  Don't forget to click on it after you have made any changes.

At this point you can do anything and everything that is possible on this sort of wiki. You can type text or use the icons to add new information and correct what is already posted. You can insert images, make links to files that are already posted on your own home page or blog, change font type, and so on. If you are not sure about how to use an icon, let your cursor hover over it for  few seconds and a little box will pop up beneath it saying what it does.

Like most web-building tools, the "editor" program by the PBwiki organization takes a little getting used to, but it's generally pretty intuitive. Even so, if you are overwhelmed by the prospect of doing anything beyond reading what others have posted, that's ok since the point of this wiki is to put you in touch with the other participants. Consider:

  • You can always communicate with them by email, text messaging, or videoconferencing (more on this below): this wiki is just one way to make contact.
  • However, if you want to use the wiki but have trouble with what they call "formatting style issues," you can get help by going to a very nice Help page that the PBwiki sponsors have created in both English (http://yummy.pbwiki.com/WikiStyle)) and Spanish (http://yummy.pbwiki.com/WikiStyle%20(Español).
  • As a last resort, you can send your materials to one of the directors of this wiki and he will post it for you. During the current school year Aaron Crowe (acrowe1@luc.edu)  is acting as Co-DIrector, and he is the best one to contact, especially for Spanish materials. Otherwise contact Tom Wren (twren@luc.edu).

There are other help pages provided by the PBwiki sponsors as well as a Users' Forum that might be useful to you too. Trying clicking on "Help" if you see it in the upper right corner (not visible when you are in the edit mode).  If after looking at them you are still confused, send an email to Aaron or Tom and we will try to help you, either individually or by adding some more explanations (in Spanish or English) to this page

So give it a try. Why don't you go to the "Participants" page and tell us more about yourself. Add some text, insert an image, make a link to your home page or blog, create a new page within this wiki (see below), and so on. Don't be shy -- and don't forget to hit the "Save" button when you are finished!

 Some More Tips

Creating new pages and links to them. This link takes you to a special page that was created by Tom Wren, using the very steps that it describes. Let Tom know if there are any errors or misleading statements.

Feel free to add your own tips.
