Creating New Pages and Links

(This is not as hard as it looks. After one or two times you'll be able to create new pages in your sleep.)

The idea here is to make a new page and a link to it.. However, we must do it in the reverse order, first creating the link on an existing "source" page and then creating its "target" page.

  1. Go into the existing source page (this could be any page, including the sidebar page) and check the "Edit Page" button. (In what follows, I'll refer to this source page as the "old page.")
  2. To create a link to your future new page, type into the old page a name for the new page that you want to create.
  3. Highlight this name and click the Link icon on the bar at the top (it's the blue and green globe attached to a chain link).
  4. A special Link box pops up. Use the default values that you'll find in the four little frames that you see there, and then click OK.
  5. The Link box disappears and you are back in the full editing screen. Save it. This takes you out of the edit mode of the old page into what I will call its "regular mode."
  6. You will see in the body of the text the link that you have just created, which is underscored with red dashes to indicate that the new page itself has not yet been created.
  7. But when you click on this link, another box pops up, this time entitled "Name Your New Page." If you don't like the default name that you see, change it to something better, but then hit the blue button stamped with the words "Create New Page." (Leave the "no template" button checked.)
  8. Now you are in the edit mode of the new page, which is ready to receive whatever you want to type. Use the usual formatting tools at the top and when you're finished, click "Save." (Warning: It's easy to forget to make this final save, at least until you learn the hard way that if you don't save the data you cannot hit the Back button and try again!)

That's it. Now go back to the homepage and see if the navigation works properly. Good luck!  --Tom Wren
